Editor Reviews

Glam AI: Video & Photo Editor is an app that uses artificial intelligence to turn your selfies into something different, like putting you into a Renaissance painting or giving you a new hairstyle. It first popped up on the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store around 2019. On the Google Play Store alone, it has racked up over 50 million installs, which is pretty wild. You can download the app for free, and you don't need to register an account to start messing around with the basic stuff. But like most apps these days, there are in-app purchases. You can buy a subscription to unlock the premium filters and effects, and yeah, there are ads that pop up unless you pay for the premium version.

Using the app is super straightforward. You just snap a photo or upload one from your camera roll, then pick a style from the library—like "Fantasy" or "Cartoon." The AI does its magic in a few seconds, and you can save the result to your phone. A tip I picked up: if you want the best results, use a well-lit, front-facing photo without any sunglasses or stuff covering your face. The AI gets confused if it can't see your full face. Also, the app works way better if you have a stable internet connection because the processing is done on their servers, not on your phone.

I used to mess around with apps like FaceApp and Meitu. They are both fun, but I ended up sticking with Glam AI because the variety of art styles is just bigger. FaceApp is good for aging or swapping genders, but Glam AI has more "out there" filters, like turning you into a marble statue or a comic book character. Plus, the video editing part is way better in Glam AI. You can apply the same AI effects to short video clips, which you cannot really do on FaceApp for free. It is not a perfect app, but for a free download that lets me have a laugh with my friends, it does the job.

Features

  • 🎭 AI Art Transformations: Unlike Meitu, which focuses mostly on beauty retouching, Glam AI has a huge library of art styles. You can turn a regular selfie into an oil painting or a cyberpunk avatar. The AI does not just slap a filter on; it actually reconstructs the face to match the style, which looks way more natural than what you get on similar apps.
  • 🎬 AI Video Editing: This is the standout feature. Most apps in this genre, like FaceApp, only let you edit photos. Glam AI lets you apply the same AI art filters to short video clips. You can film a 15-second video of yourself talking and have it rendered in a painterly style. That is something you just don't see in other free photo editors on the Play Store.
  • 🎨 Reimagine Avatar: A newer feature that I have not seen on competitors like Picsart. You upload 6 to 10 photos of yourself, and the AI generates a set of custom avatars in different outfits and backgrounds. It is almost like having your own mini photo shoot without needing to change clothes or leave the house.

Pros

  • ⚡ Massive Style Library: The sheer number of filters and effects is a huge strength. Snapchat has Lenses, but they are mostly temporary and tied to trends. Glam AI has a permanent library of over 200 styles, so you never run out of things to try.
  • ⚡ Easy to Share: The app has built-in share buttons for Instagram and TikTok. After you edit a photo, you can send it straight to Stories or your feed. This saves a step compared to apps like Remini, where you have to save the photo and then manually upload it.
  • ⚡ Free to Try: You can download and use most of the fun filters without paying a cent. Other apps like Facetune make you pay before you even see what the filter looks like. Glam AI lets you preview the result with a watermark, so you know what you are paying for.

Cons

  • 💸 Heavy In-App Purchases: The biggest downside is the subscription model. To remove the watermark and get rid of ads, you have to pay a monthly fee. Compared to Meitu, which offers more free features, Glam AI feels a bit stingy. You cannot even download a non-watermarked photo without a subscription.
  • 💸 Slow Processing for Video: The AI processing for video can take a very long time. A 10-second video clip takes almost a minute to render on a decent Wi-Fi connection. Apps like CapCut process video effects much faster because they use on-device AI, whereas Glam AI relies on cloud servers.
  • 💸 Privacy Concerns: To use the Reimagine Avatar feature, you have to upload 10 different selfies to their servers. The app's privacy policy is not the clearest about what they do with those photos after you delete the avatar. This is a common worry with apps like FaceApp, and Glam AI is no different.
