Last Shelter: Survival is a zombie-themed strategy game that mixes base building, troop training, and real-time alliance warfare. It is developed by Long Tech Network Limited and it runs on android and iOS, so you can grab it from google play or the App Store. The game first launched back in 2017 and has since racked up millions of installs worldwide. It is free to download and install, which is how most people get pulled in. That said, there are in game purchases, and they are not shy about them. You can spend anything from a couple of bucks on a small pack to hundreds if you really want to climb fast. There are no forced ads popping up mid-battle, which I appreciate, but the store is always there tempting you.

You start by building up your shelter, upgrading buildings, and training troops while a zombie horde lurks outside. The real meat of the game is the alliance play. You join an alliance, coordinate attacks, defend territory, and fight over resources. The best part for me is the state vs state wars. When a full server conflict kicks off, the chat lights up, people actually talk, and the whole thing feels alive. My favorite moment was holding a chokepoint with my alliance for hours while enemies kept throwing troops at us. It is tense and satisfying in a way that solo play never is. You do not need to pay to enjoy the early and mid game, but patience is required if you want to stay competitive.

Compared to other base builders like State of Survival or Puzzles and Survival, Last Shelter leans harder into the strategy side and less into gimmicky mini games. State of Survival has more story and hero collecting, while Last Shelter feels more like a war simulator where your decisions actually matter. I recommend it over those if you want something that rewards planning and teamwork rather than just tapping through events. It is not the prettiest game out there, but it does the job. If you are tired of games that hold your hand, this one will make you think. Just be ready for the grind and the wallet pressure later on.

Features

  • Alliance warfare that actually matters 😀 - You cannot survive alone in this game. Joining a strong alliance opens up territory wars, rally attacks, and shared resources that make the whole experience feel bigger than just your own base.
  • Deep base building and troop training πŸ—οΈ - There is a real sense of progression as you upgrade buildings and unlock new troop types. Unlike State of Survival, where heroes carry you, here your base layout and troop composition matter a lot.
  • State vs state conflict events βš”οΈ - These large-scale wars are the highlight. Entire servers clash over objectives, and the coordination required makes it feel like a proper strategy game rather than a tap fest.

Pros

  • Rewards teamwork over solo spending 🀝 - You can get far by being active in a good alliance. Compared to Puzzles and Survival, where solo progression feels more isolated, Last Shelter pushes you to cooperate and that makes wins feel earned.
  • Free to start with no ad spam 🚫 - You can download and install it on android from google play without paying a cent, and there are no annoying ads interrupting your sessions. The in game purchases are optional, even if they are tempting.
  • Constant events keep it fresh πŸ”„ - There is always something happening, whether it is a kill event or a resource gathering contest. State of Survival has events too, but Last Shelter's schedule feels more packed and varied.

Cons

  • Heavy pay-to-win pressure later on πŸ’Έ - Once you hit the higher levels, whales dominate. State of Survival has the same issue, but here the gap between free players and spenders feels brutal in state wars.
  • Grindy progression that slows to a crawl 🐌 - Upgrading buildings and training troops takes forever without spending. Puzzles and Survival is also grindy, but Last Shelter's timers can feel especially punishing in the late game.
  • Dated visuals and clunky UI πŸ–₯️ - The graphics look old compared to newer titles in the genre. Menus are crowded and it takes a while to find what you need, which is a real annoyance when you are managing a big base.
